|
| Always contact your state 811 center before digging and for the most current requirements. |
| Dial 811 or enter an online request at Illinois1Call.com at least two days before digging in Illinois (not including the day of notice, weekends and legal holidays). It’s free and it's the law! |
| The Illinois One Call System will make sure that all buried utility-owned lines are marked so you can dig a safe distance away. Customer-owned utility lines, such as permanently installed gas grill or pool heater lines, must be located by private contractors. |
| Know the Dangers |
| Calling 811 before you dig is the law. Hitting an underground utility line can have serious consequences leading to outages, fires, serious injuries or fatalities. You can avoid property damage, personal injury, and possible fines and repair costs by notifying the JULIE at 811 service before you start to dig. Even small digging jobs require this. |
| Play It Safe |
| 1. |
Per Illinois law, you must pre-mark your proposed excavation area with white paint, flags, chalk, lath or whiskers. |
|
|
| 3. |
WAIT the required time for utilities to be marked before you dig. |
| 4. |
Follow Illinois state laws for digging within the “tolerance zone,” a safety area that spans the width of a marked utility plus 18 inches from each indicated outside edge. |
|
| 5. |
Respect the marks, hand expose to verify the location of marked utility lines and dig with care! |
